Encore

One last round of pics from our trip to France. On our way from Calais to Normandy, we made a quick stop in Caen to visit William the Conqueror's castle.  Since we've been taking a chronological approach to our history and studied this back in the fall, I had to rely on the boys to be the tour guides.  Turns out they do listen and they both have amazing memories.

The American Cemetery.

So strange, yet wonderful, to show my boys what stands out as one of my youngest and clearest memories from traveling the world.
It's so poignant to read the stories and realize the incredible bravery these young men demonstrated.
Matts was very thoughtful throughout the museum, he poured over all the descriptions and  you could practically see it all sinking in. We would be honored to have our boys grow up to trying to emulate "the greatest generation".

And the we hit the beach :)
France was truly an experience for the boy's schooling to come to life. They saw so many things we have studied and you could see the wheels in their heads turning-realizing that the world is such a large, rich place and that things is books REALLY did happen.  Selfishly, I've learned so much this year and loved every minute of my "research". Maybe not EVERY minute, but you get the idea...
